Theatre - Camp Med-O-Lark - The Arts Camp of New England

Theater & Music
Dynamic and energetic performing arts programs make Med-O-Lark’s theater a very busy area in camp. The productions that campers participate in create a “Broadway-like” atmosphere that is electric. The heart of the theater program lies in the three, four week productions. The play, the musical and the cabaret are offered to four, six and eight week campers, and the one-act play is designed specifically for two week campers. All of Med-O-Lark’s productions are produced, performed and recorded on campus in the theater or in the coliseum. Eight week campers have the opportunity to act and/or sing in one, two or all three of the fully mounted and staged productions, which are performed during the
last week of the session in front of the entire camp community. As a compliment to the larger productions,
workshops in improv, theatre tech, set design, stage makeup , costume design, monologues, stage combat and voice lessons are offered. Like all activities at Med-O-Lark, the theater and music programs are designed to accommodate campers of all abilities. Med-O-Lark’s performing arts program is formulated to foster inclusion, promote respect for each camper’s abilities and to present an opportunity for children to develop their skills in an enriching, non-competitive environment.

Music classes range from those designed for t he true beginner to those designed for the advanced player. Med- O-Lark’s music program is e quipped with acoustic and electric guitars, basses, keyboards, percussion equipment and d r um sets. Campers are also welcome and encouraged to bring their own instruments from home. I n addition to having an extensive array of music al instruments, Med- O -Lark houses a recording studio, complete with all of the equipment necessary for campers to create and produce their own CD’s. While attending music classes, the instruction that campers receive from staff is just t he beginning. Campers are encouraged to experiment and collaborate on their own. As a result, some of the most exciting work each summer arises from campers’ creativity. Campers have the ability to showcase their talents to the entire camp community in the theater productions, sharing nights, and talent shows.
